Project Read offers one-on-one tutoring for functionally illiterate adults in Utah County and changes lives through literacy by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building community.
In a world of constant change and commotion, we may often feel like strangers. We live in a time of uncertainty and unrest. Many around us live in fear of an unknown future. Project Read works with students from all countries and backgrounds, including refugees, who are seeking a better life for themselves and their families. We help adults in this effort by giving them the literacy skills they need for a brighter future.
As a volunteer tutor at Project Read, YOU can change a life through literacy. It’s easy to start!
Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a HS diploma or GED.
- Possess good reading and writing skills.
- Have an interest in and willingness to tutor an adult student in basic literacy skills.
- Have patience and be committed.
Commitment:
- Commit to serve for six months.
- Meet one-on-one with a student twice a week for a total of three hours.
- Plan tutoring lessons.
- Complete a 45-minute orientation prior to being paired and an additional training session.
- Attend quarterly workshops.
