Description

Project Read offers one-on-one tutoring for functionally illiterate adults in Utah County and changes lives through literacy by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building community.

In a world of constant change and commotion, we may often feel like strangers. We live in a time of uncertainty and unrest. Many around us live in fear of an unknown future. Project Read works with students from all countries and backgrounds, including refugees, who are seeking a better life for themselves and their families. We help adults in this effort by giving them the literacy skills they need for a brighter future.

You can change a life through literacy by volunteering in a weekly Literacy Lab. The Project Read Literacy Lab is a group instruction experience designed to help students improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. During the first hour of lab, the literacy specialist teaches a lesson to the entire group. After that students can work with the literacy specialist or lab volunteers on individual projects and assignments.

Lab volunteers participate in the literacy lesson and activities, assist the literacy specialist, and work one-on-one with students, as needed.

Volunteering in a Literacy Lab is flexible, volunteers can choose which labs they attend. Lab volunteers are asked to commit to attending one lab per month in order to remain active.

Literacy Lab schedule:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

10-11:30 am, 12:30-2 pm, 5:30-7 pm
