Who We Are
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax preparation assistance to families and individuals that make less than $60,000 annually, although half of all VITA clients make $15,000 or less a year. Annually, the VITA program completes over 4,500 returns and brings over $5,000,000 into the hands of low-income individuals and families in Utah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties. Helping families get a full refund is one of the most effective poverty-reduction tools available in the United States.
We provide service to anyone who meets the income requirements and whose taxes fall in the range of our volunteer training--students, veterans, resident aliens, retirees, and working professionals.
What We Do
Volunteers receive free IRS training and commit to giving three hours a week of tax preparation service during the tax season. Volunteers who spend a whole season volunteering with the VITA program bring around $40,000 into the hands of low-income individuals and families in Utah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties.
No previous finance experience is needed! We provide all of the training needed to help community members become IRS certified tax preparers. After certification, you will be asked to volunteer for at at least 4 hours (one shift) each week from February-April 2024 at one of our VITA sites.
